Indian Institute of Management, Indore's 2017 placement cycle: IIM Indore achieved 100% placement for its 2017 batch of 611 PGP, PGP Mumbai and IPM participants, with 200-plus recruiters, a highest domestic package of Rs 37 LPA and a highest international package of Rs 39 LPA; Strategy and Consulting led sector share at 28%. The longer reading and numbered takeaways below unpack what that means for sector mix, recruiter depth, and how to read average versus median.

Strategy & Consulting was the leading domain at 28% of the batch, narrowly ahead of Finance at 27%, while Sales & Marketing (23%), IT & Analytics (8%), General Management (7%) and Operations & HR (7%) rounded out the remaining offers. Of the 200-plus recruiters, 74 participated for the first time, and 105 students secured Pre-Placement Offers, a 27% rise reported over the previous year.

The highest international package (Rs 39 LPA) exceeded the highest domestic package (Rs 37 LPA, bagged by two students) by about 5%. Average CTC across the top 50 offers reached Rs 25.43 LPA and Rs 23.73 LPA for the top 100, both well above the reported batch average of Rs 16.23 LPA.

Legacy finance recruiters Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase & Co together extended more than 30 offers, while consulting saw Actuate Business Consulting, Boston Consulting Group, Cognizant Business Consulting, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Infosys Management Consulting, KPMG and PwC hire in strong numbers. The 611-strong batch combined 449 core PGP, 100 IPM and 62 PGP Mumbai participants, with IPM's own average CTC (Rs 12.52 LPA) and PGP Mumbai's (Rs 12.74 LPA) reported separately from the headline PGP figure.

Key takeaways

  1. Average CTC rose 3.6%

Average CTC rose from ₹15.67 LPA in the prior cycle to ₹16.23 LPA this year (+3.6%). That is a modest change for Indian Institute of Management, Indore aspirants reading this report as a signal of typical outcomes, especially for median, which is less skewed by a handful of outlier offers than average or highest CTC.

  2. Highest CTC rose 21.9%

Highest CTC rose from ₹32 LPA in the prior cycle to ₹39 LPA this year (+21.9%). That is a material move for Indian Institute of Management, Indore aspirants reading this report as a signal of typical outcomes, especially for median, which is less skewed by a handful of outlier offers than average or highest CTC.

  3. Strategy and Consulting led the batch at 28%

Strategy and Consulting accounted for 28% of offers, the largest sector share in this 2017 report. The next sector, Finance, sat at 27%, so the gap between first and second is 1 percentage points. If your target function sits outside this lead sector, treat the headline placement rate as a campus-wide figure rather than a guarantee for your preferred cohort.

  4. Top two sectors took 55% of offers

Strategy and Consulting and Finance together made up 55% of offers, a concentrated recruiter mix. Sales and Marketing was a distant third at 23%. Concentration is not automatically good or bad, but it does mean batch-level averages can mask thinner opportunity in secondary functions.

  5. 100% of the eligible batch placed

611 of 611 eligible students accepted offers through the campus process (100%). With essentially full participation in the reported pool, the next question is how those offers were distributed across sectors and pay bands rather than whether a seat converted.
